Elijah Skaggs kicked off his national season by joining in on the season finale of the 2019 Florida Winter Tour. Skaggs got into town late Thursday evening, only giving himself three practice sessions to learn the race track and get his IONIC Edge dialed in. Unfortunately, that put him in the hole, qualifying 13th.
An up and down run through the heat races put him 15th on the grid for the Pre Final, but by Saturday, Elijah and the Skaggs family had gotten him up to speed. He drove through the field to get up to 6th, a solid starting position for the Final.
Rough luck struck early for Skaggs on Sunday, though, as the young driver from Tennessee got tangled in an incident early that sent him outside the Top 10. However, he recovered quickly to get back on track, and methodically cut his way up to the lead. With just two laps remaining, Elijah made his bid for the lead for the first time all weekend. He never looked back, building a near second gap over second place by the checkered flag.
