Reed Motorsports and IONIC Edge Chassis came together at the beginning of the 2020 race season to continue to build on a great pedigree of LO206 chassis of years past.
This year we worked together to come up with a left-sided motor version of the Classic Single Rail IONIC Edge Chassis. The purpose of the “Lefty” project was to achieve the most perfectly balanced kart.
The 2020 prototype chassis that RMS has been testing with LO206JR pilot Camryn Reed has been absolutely amazing. We’re super excited about the potential for the chassis based on the results we have already achieved to start the year.
We’ve been able to build fast, winning karts for RMS and many IONIC Edge racers, but our goal with all projects, and especially this one, is to build a consistently fast kart. With the reworked balance of the motor being located on the left hand side of the driver, we feel we’ve achieved just that. The ‘sweet spot’ of the “Lefty” chassis has shown to be very wide, even as grip levels continue to change over the course of a race weekend.
Truthfully, the results speak for themselves. For Camryn Reed and Reed Motorsports, the chassis has won, qualified on the pole, and set the overall fastest lap time at every event it’s competed in. Due to both Reed Motorsports’ success and their fantastic help in the development of this chassis, it’s been coined the ‘IONIC Edge REED Chassis’.
